He’s Not Playing Hide and Seek!

hideandseek4 What I really want to do is find God, to spend time with Him, to feel Him near and to know what He thinks about things, and what I should do about things. He’s not playing Hide and Seek. He is sitting on the bench waiting for me to come and join Him. He’s not hiding. I’m the one running like I’m playing Tag. I’m running on through the day, hoping He’s following me. No, He’s still waiting for me to come and sit with Him, or walk with Him and ask Him questions and hear, hideandseek2really hear His answers. He’s not playing games trying to keep me from being with Him. He’s waiting for me to stop and listen. What if it is all up to me how much of God there is in my life? What if it’s just me who can determine the level of His Presence, and the magnitude of His love that I experience in a day. What could I actually learn by keeping my unruly thoughts focused on Him for longer periods of time. I think it’s time for me to stop playing games and spend time with Him more. I’ve got a lot to learn and it might be a really good day to start learning.

Today’s Verse: Matthew 6:33 – But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

hideandseek5Today’s Action: Realize it’s in your hands. How much of God do you want in your life. Then give a little more of yourself. Start with 5 minutes more. If you’ve been reading the Bible 10 minutes a day, read it for 15. If you’ve been praying or worshiping for 5 minutes, try to do it for 10 minutes. If you’ve been giving 0 time, then start with 5 minutes. He will be there to greet you every time.

A Reason to Live

helping1Recently a friend of mine expressed her deepest cry to God, “I just want a reason to live!” This resonated within me because I believe many people feel that way and also feel they are the only ones who do. I pondered what an answer would be for her and for those who have that same heart’s cry, and here is what I came up with. . .There are people in the world who need you, people only you can touch, people who need your smile, your kind words, your wisdom, your friendship. Your purpose is to find them and meet their need.

It is time for all of us to forget about ourselves and our needs and find those who need us. God put us here for such a purpose. We need each other. We each have a lot to give. Give what you need.  Now is the time to forget yourself. That is where the answer lies. You can do this. You may not even personally know the people who need you. They may be the clerks at stores where you shop, or the drivers of cars you pass. People you see everywhere you go need your smile, your prayers, and your positive thoughts as you pass them. Others will need your friendship, your laughter, and your unselfish gift of encouragement and love. Who needs you today? You may never know, but know this: people need you. Just be yourself and let the love of God flow out of you to everyone you meet.

helping2Today’s Verse:  Matthew 7:12 – Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets

Today’s Action: Ask God for His grace and help in forgetting yourself. Then  give what you need to others today!

Don’t Listen to the Butcher!

butcherJust the other day, I stopped into the grocery store to pick up some meat to cook for supper. I made a nice choice and chatted amiably with the butcher about where I work and the fact that he had been in the same industry years ago. Then as I was leaving, he lowered his voice and  told me to check out a certain senator on youtube and see what he says about so and so. I had barely shut the door in the house before I was checking it out. What the senator said was quite disturbing along with the implications that were made for our country. My mind began to whirl with what if this and what if that. Well, the butcher had just robbed me of the night of peace and joy I had planned. Who does he think he is, and why was I listening? We all have these choices to make every day. Are you going to listen to what the butcher says, or are you going to listen to the Voice of Peace?

I know better than this. I know to listen to the Voice of Peace. It is a principle I try to follow and have hopefully taught our children, that you can judge the Voice you are hearing by the fruit of it. If what you are hearing from others or in your own mind brings you negative feelings, feelings of fear, confusion, or condemnation, there is one thing for psalm23sure it is NOT the Voice of God. His is a voice of Peace. We do well to learn to recognize it, and to shut out all other voices. Listening to the wrong voice steals your joy and your productivity and leads you down a wrong path. Listening to the Voice of Peace leads you down the right path and allows you to be a blessing and an encouragement to others. Refuse thoughts and messages that cause fear. Yes, there is danger lurking in the world, but more importantly there is a God of peace, safety, love and protection ready, willing and able to hold you in His hands and allow you to meet any situation that arises with victory. Have no fear, listen to the Voice of Peace, and you will walk in  paths of righteousness, joy and truth. And the moral of the story is, “Don’t listen to the butcher!”

Today’s Action: Tune in to the Voice of Peace. Ask God what He thinks about certain situations you face and then listen. Refuse any thought that causes you distress and embrace this thought, “God is taking care of me. He always has, and He always will.”

Today’s Verse

Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell[a] in the house of the Lord

Your Thoughts are the Steering Wheel

sunshine2Nothing at all happens without a thought. A thought is the beginning of every action and attitude. Without a thought we would say nothing, do nothing, and go nowhere. Our thoughts are the steering wheel of our lives. Which way will we turn it? To success and prosperity? To joy and peace? To kindness? Or to anger, jealousy, and pride. Take any of those thoughts and the actions will follow. Taking the right thoughts steers us into the way God has planned for us to go. This will please Him, and bring peace. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5,6

We have three choices to make: we can think nothing, think right, or think wrong. If we are moving along thinking nothing, with no plan, we will be circling, seeing the same scenery we’ve always seen. Thinking wrong is: worrying, expecting the worst, belittling or condemning ourselves, judging others or being negative and morose. These will propel us swiftly down the path of despair. Thinking right moves us forward. We are expecting something good to happen; we are focused on our dreams, what we want to happen, and who we want to be. We will travel that road, relishing in the scenery along the way and the daily blessings that cross our path.

uturn2What do I do if I discover I am rolling down the road in the wrong direction?  Make a U-turn and change course. It only takes being aware of where our thoughts are taking us. If it is not where we want to go, make the first legal U-turn. Sometimes we must  travel on until we can finally see a place to make that turn, or we may need to stop and ask for directions. Now that we are headed in the right direction, don’t forget to wave at other moving vehicles and enjoy the drive!

Today’s Verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5,6

Today’s Action: Let God give you His guidance as you think about these statements today.

  • You can bring yourself down or pick your self up today. What will you do?
  • Your life is directed by your thoughts, don’t ever forget that!
  • Your thoughts are the steering wheel of your life. Where will you go today?
