A to Z Scripture Adventure: J is Luke 9:1

Here we are at Day 10! If you’ve been with us since the beginning, I know one thing for sure, your spirit man is stronger. You just can’t eat of the Word like this on a daily basis and not grow from it! If you aren’t feeling stronger, keep at it or get started right away meditating the Word. It is full of life!

JDid you get that?

J15Jesus called the twelve together, He gave them power and authority to drive out demons and to heal diseases. Luke 9:1

You can do it! You have power and authority. Jesus says you can drive out demons and heal diseases. Think about that today. Really think about it.

When we said this verse at our school, we would often end it by enthusiastically shouting, “Power and Authority, Power and Authority, Power and Authority!” It has to sink into our thick human heads that God has given us power and authority! It seems too wonderful to comprehend. In Luke 9:1, Jesus sent the boys, I mean the men, out on their own, two by two and gave instructions. They were to drive out demons and heal diseases. They, no doubt, returned pretty excited about what they had been able to do in His Name.

If you doubt that God has given that same power and authority to us, read these verses from John 14:12-14:

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

God’s plan is for us to do greater works than Jesus did. It will take some diligent meditation on Luke 9: 1 to get us to the point of driving out demons and healing diseases as Jesus did, but as we accept His Word, we become willing and obedient to follow His leading to pray for the oppressed and afflicted. The results are entirely in His hands.

I challenge you to let God speak to you about what He can do through you today. Who can you pray for? Who can you encourage? Whose life can you change? We know that Jesus is the One Who is doing it, but He’s given you power and authority to speak on His behalf. Don’t hold back! Do it! Do something in His name as you meditate this powerful verse today.

And don’t let this scare you away. We are all growing day by day. He takes us by the hand and leads us gently, never pushing us ahead so that we fall on our faces. The Holy Spirit is within you, and beside you to help and guide, teach and comfort. What an incredible life we have to live as a child of God!

Visit the Prayer Wall, please. It is filling up. Use the power and authority given you to pray for others!

Thank you for being a part of this adventure!SharySignature
